Tonight, Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Based on National Weather Forecasts, the Town of Winthrop has declared a Town-wide Parking Ban effective 8PM tonight, Wednesday, January 26, 2011.

All residents must get their vehicles off the streets.

The parking ban will remain in effect until further notice.

In addition, the DPW requests that residents refrain from placing snow back into our streets, which makes their efforts to clean and make our streets safe difficult.

WINTER PARKING REGULATIONS

Winter Parking Regulations are in effect each year

from December 15 to April 1

Effective each year from December 15th to April 1st, winter parking regulations are in effect. These regulations state that upon announcement of the U.S. Weather Bureau or forecast in the newspaper, on radio or television of an EXPECTED OR IMPENDING snow storm, all motor vehicles must be removed from Town streets. Motor vehicles not removed will be subject to fines and/or towing. The vehicle owner is responsible for fines and tow charges including tickets lost or damaged by the weather condition.

Boston Region MPO Hosts Public Meetings on

Short-Range and Long-Range Transportation Planning

The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is hosting a series of public meetings and workshops this winter to discuss a plan for implementing transportation projects over the next four years, a long-range transportation plan with a 25-year horizon, and transportation equity concerns. The MPO's plans affect a 101-municipality area of eastern Massachusetts that composes the MPO region.

 TIP-Building Workshops (for the MPO's Transportation Improvement Program)

In February, the MPO will host several TIP-Building workshops. The workshops will focus on the development of the draft Federal Fiscal Years (FFYs) 2012-2015 Transportation Improvement Program and Air Quality Conformity Determination (TIP), the four-year plan for investing federal transportation dollars in the region. The TIP-Building Workshops are open to the public, but will be of particular interest to municipal staff and project proponents who are seeking federal funding to implement transportation projects. MPO staff will provide information about changes that are occurring to the TIP development process and the process the MPO uses to evaluate proposed projects.

Regional Transportation Needs Assessment Workshops

Another set of workshops will focus on the development of the MPO's long-range transportation plan, Paths to a Sustainable Region. In particular, there will be a discussion about the Needs Assessment that the MPO has conducted to identify problems within all modes of the region's transportation network, such as transit service needs, the locations of traffic bottlenecks and congestion, locations where there are numerous motor vehicle crashes, and transportation equity issues. Transportation Equity Forum

The MPO staff will also hold a Transportation Equity Forum on February 2 to provide another opportunity to discuss the Needs Assessment for the long-range plan with residents of neighborhoods that have high concentrations of low-income or minority residents, and to provide for consideration of transportation equity issues as the plan is being developed.
